February 2005:

"Please note that due to unforeseen situations, we needed more time to complete the fieldwork and prepare the draft report on the EPA Inspector General audit of the Hercules 009 Landfill Superfund Site," reports Tapati Bhattacharyya, Office of Congressional and Public Liaison.  "Currently we are working on the draft report, and as mentioned in previous updates to you, we will not be able to share our results with you prior to issuing the final report.  At this time our estimated report dates are as follows.

Estimated Draft Report Date: March 15, 2005

Estimated Agency Response Due: April 15, 2005

Estimated Final Report Date: May 15, 2005."

EPA wrongdoing at the Hercules 009 Landfill Superfund Site was documented and sent to the EPA National Ombudsmanís office, which took the case.  The case was transferred to the EPA Inspector General's Office in April 2002. The GEC case concerns the EPA's failure to follow the law during the remediation of the Hercules 009 Site, including development of an analytical method to hide toxaphene pesticide at 5 toxic sites in our community.
In 2005 - The EPA Inspector General is currently conducting a full review of activities that led to the development of the biased toxaphene analytical method.  The final report was expected late in April 2005, but, per the above report from Tapati Bhattacharyya, is now not anticipated prior to mid-May.  A community meeting will be planned when the Inspector Generalís report is released.
