Background Information

Symrise Inc. is located on the southwest portion of Colonels Island in Brunswick, GA at 209 SCM Road. The site is bordered primarily by Georgia Port Authority property and a small industrial operation owned by Allied Universal that sits northeast of the Symrise property boundary. Additionally, the site has a densely forested border, beyond which sits tidal marshlands and a portion of the Little Satilla River which meanders within 800 feet from the property boundary at its nearest point.

The site consists of 192 acres, with the active facility consisting of about 25 acres. The facility has been in operation since 1981 and has been owned and operated by numerous parent companies. Currently, the facility processes alpha-pinene into fragrances, compounds, and flavors that are used in other consumer products like cosmetics, high-end fragrances, laundry, and or home/personal care products.

The facility has been required to submit an application to the Georgia Environmental Protection Division for a 'Hazardous Waste Facility Permit' that will allow the facility to continue to monitor the existing groundwater contamination and facilitate cleanup activities as necessary. You can find additional information including the full permit package by visiting:  https://epd.georgia.gov/symiseincpostclosurepermit-0.
